Cherish your loved ones, cos'you never know what would happen
On Monday evening, missus and myself met Francis, our financial planner. We had not seen him for a while, so as usual he asked how we would be doing for the past months. I told him that i am with --A and the immediate question he posted was that "is working in --A very stressful?"
I asked him why. He mentioned of a suicide incident which received vast media coverage few years back and his client who had passed away recently - both of the same organisation as i am. Incidentally, it was through Francis that i knew of the demise of his client who was someone i met some time back and had worked together for an emergency planning exercise. It was very sad, because he was a cheerful person and a good team member. He was not even 34 when he died in his sleep. According to Francis, he had no known medical history.
When I spoke to fellow colleagues of the passing of Boon Hwee, all were shocked because no one would expect this would happen to someone who was young and vibrant. Was it because of stress, possibly work-related?
Often we have read of reports that pple in their 30s and early 40s passed away with no apparent medical history. These incidents are rather unheard of ten years ago. It seems that my generation is really subjected to lots of pressure. No more iron rice bowl, fixed increment, timely promotion and fixed 8 to 5 jobs. When you go for hols, you would feel piss when the phone rings and the number was from the office!
Francis posted a question to us. When was the last time you had met/spoken to your family and friends? He himself admitted that it was not frequent for him and we all share the same thought that it would be very regretful if something unfortunate happens to yourself or your loved ones.
So the other day i txt a few of my old mates whom i have not met for a long time. i was not meeting them frequent enuf and i hope they would sustain their interest reading this blog. if we are not seeing each other as frequent as we would have wished, the blog would be at least served to update them of what this balding and heavy uncle is doing.
