For goodness sake, it is only a few cents

Actually I have quite a few posts to send out today, but let me start off with this piece of trivial item which upset my day in office.

I received a memo from a finance staff yesterday. It concerned a few hundred dollars of claims which i was seeking reimbursements through petty cash. But the form came back with a memo, sth like that: "Mr Fong, can you please confirm if you have paid the exact amt, to the exact cents, ie."

You see, there were few receipts, two of which after GST, came up to $11.03 and the other $22.47 (or sth like that). I rang up the lady this morning and asked what was the rationale? She said usually shopkeepers would round down the amt, and so the clients/buys would pay less. In a way, they would like to avoid the situation that I am claiming the extra CENTS which I am claiming. She said such details need to be verified becos they themselves would be queried.

I tried to rationalise by saying that at times we made small expenses w/o actually seeking reimbursements, so why do we have to go that extent of spending time to go thro' such small numbers. Of course, she was not convinced.

So, to move forward, I had to make written lines that "I had paid the exact amount as indicated" on those invoices concerned. Else, I have to re-submit another form, and explain that I am claiming lesser than amouts stated because the shop owners collected less from me.

But gog thro' this episode, half an hour gone. Manhours charged to both parties for those few cents.

Isn't life wonderful?
