The daughter needs to pay fare
Last Thursday, the three of us went Plaza Sing to do our grocery at Carrefour. As usual we took NEL, and as we were exiting from the fare gates at Dhoby Guat, one of the SBS Transit station managers approached us. I guessed the reason was because the daughter and myself went out, one after another, as I tapped MY card, i.e. one only. He asked to see my EZLink pass, whcih I felt rather embarassing (which also serves at my staff pass). Surprisingly, he just smiled, thanked us and walked away.
As we headed towards Carrefour, missus was saying that I "got away" because i am a staff of so-and-so authroity. I was thinking likewise, and we decided that instead of "cheating" the good old transport operators, we should get the daughter an EZlink card of her own.
The following day, i spoke to my colleagues which offered another "theory" why I was not caught. They believed the yellow colour light which flashed as we tapped our pass might have alerted that very diligent staff. Normal fares would trigger a green light, while our staff cards and children/student cards would give the same yellow light. He must have suspected that I was the one that was not paying teh adult fare instead!
Anyway, I popped over to the Transit Link office at Novena station and gotten the card after filling a form and paid $6. We thot the daughter must have delighted with a card of her own, moreover of a different colour. Instead, she said "I dun want a yellow card, i want a blue one like mummy!"
and when you just thot you had made her day ...
