Want to change job?
On Saturday I bumped into my year1 classmate from NTU at United Square. This was the second time in couple of months. We were there because of our kids. His younger son was having lessons at Growing Up Gifted, and jalan around with his elder son while waiting. For me, i brought the daughter there getting my passbook updated/buying grocery from cold storage/let her ran around in popular.
While the kids were having fun at the interactive stuff at the new kids corner, we spoke of our plans. He had been in the same job since graduation, so reaching 10 yrs soon. Though doing sales was tough, the salary was reasonably ok and he admitted that despite not getting heavy increments, there is little inertia for him to move cos' he has gotten use to the cycle and nothing was too difficult. In fact, he is in a comfort zone, and it is not desirable.
That's the common problem that most of us are facing. After years, you had reached a certain level, and advancement is limited. Moving up would be difficult cos' vacancies are scarce, and gradually you would be deemed as too expensive to function in this job? One day you would become redundant, and the pink slip may come.
SOmetimes, pple make lateral moves. Some questioned the point of doing it? Well, though you may not be getting the financial rewards which you would expct, atleast the job and environment are sth different and you could sustain the drive and broaden your scope. So is it a case of Jack of all trade, but expert in none? Maybe, but who cares as long you are happy and have the passion in your job. To me, that's what, apart from monies, that makes you dragging your feet to walk everyday.
