Primary School

I met my class mate from NTu, Kwang Chin, last Sat at United Square. He borught his two sons for enrichment at Lorna Winston (or sth like that) while i was there with missus bringing the daughter for ballet. It was only then i realised that he had shifted from Jurong West to Beauty World. The reason being that his son could enrol to Pei Hwa, one of the preferred primary schools.

He is not the 1st one i came across who had moved house in order to enhance the child's chance in getting a vacancy of a preferred school. A colleague Albert shifted to somewhere near my place so that his son could go to St Michael's (now known as St Joseph Junior) while Hui Boon, a friend, is comtemplating shifting to Clementi from Queenstown so that his son can get in to Nan Hua.

To me, primary school education seems less of an issue. I came from a relatively unknown primary school but still ot decent scores to get in to VS, albeit a not so good class. Thus, i was thinking that the daughter would enrol to the nearby school which would be an ideal choice out of convenience. Another colleague, Phui Kai, had in fact suggested that i could consider sending the daughter to St Margaret's which is not far, but it would at least involve school bus, since yours truly does not drive a car. However, apart from the distance, i was not that keen as i am more inclined towards a co-ed school rather a girls school.

I had also heard of a colleague who volunteered to type letters for school, sth that he was not proud of, during his annual leave so that his son could enrol to that particular school.

Getting all the signals from them, it seems i should really give serious thots, as it was not too far away. Missus came from a reputable school, but it is too far away. So, looks like we have to really put in more efforts for the daughter's future.
